Letter From Secretary General
Honourable chairs, fellow delegates, distinguished directors, and most esteemed guests,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 17th annual SEASAC MUN conference, dedicated to our theme of “Celebrating 80 years of the United Nations”. It’s a pivotal moment for us as a College, as it’s our first time hosting SEASAC MUN and I am truly honoured to serve as your Secretary-General for this event.
Our theme this year serves as a call to reflect on the legacy of an institution built on the ideals of peace, justice, and international cooperation. The UN has faced monumental challenges over the past eight decades.
In the current day, we see conflict erupting globally. From the Middle East crisis to the territorial disputes in Eastern Europe, war has never looked closer. The devastating impact of climate change continues to grow, disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable among us. Inequality, poverty, and polarization remain deeply entrenched in societies worldwide.
As we gather here today, we are reminded that the world is far from perfect.
But there is hope. The UN, through its tireless efforts, has brought us closer to a better world. It has facilitated peace agreements where war once seemed inevitable, provided humanitarian aid in moments of unimaginable despair, and brought nations together to combat global threats such as global pandemics. It is far from flawless, but its existence reminds us that international cooperation, no matter how challenging, is not only possible but necessary.
I hope that your journey in Model UN will inspire you to contribute to diplomacy, leadership, and activism. Change doesn’t always come from podiums or senate rooms. Sometimes, it starts with a single, informed conversation. A meaningful dialogue. A willingness to truly listen and understand someone else's perspective.
This year, I encourage you to listen more and speak less. Use this space to exchange ideas, challenge your assumptions, and collaborate on solutions. We can all benefit from taking the values of the UN, cooperation, dialogue, and hope, beyond these walls and into our everyday lives.
The UN’s journey over the past 80 years has shown us what is possible when people come together to fight for a common cause. With your energy, creativity, and compassion, we believe we can take those efforts even further. The world isn’t perfect, but with your help, it can get closer.
We look forward to seeing you all in Singapore!
Sincerely,
Abhinav Choudhary
